Dear friends,
With all the headaches and dramas of the last few days, I’m glad to inform you that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports in cooperation with the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT), the Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT), Association of Thai Travel Agents (ATTA) and Thai Hotels Association (THA) now host stranded passengers to hotels in Bangkok. The accommodation granted to these passengers are based on Full Board, up to the amount of 2000 Baht per day.
The only thing that the passengers need to do is to call the hotel, check availability, provide the with a copy of their airticket (showing departure between 25-30 November) and a copy of the passport. I checked it myself personally, and indeed the hotels mentioned below, gladly provide accommodation for your stranded guests.
As regarding the visas: there will be no penalty or charge for overstay from the Immigration Bureau for any tourist whose visa has expired since 26 November, 2008, till the airport reopens. Tourists only need to show their original tickets.
I would also like to stress that except the two Bangkok airports and the area around the Prime Ministers’ Office, all other locations, tourist destinations and attractions nationwide are not being affected by this situation and are very safe. Until now not one single tourist has been physically hurt.
